On February 11, 2023, York Regional Police hosted a Black History Month event at their headquarters in Aurora that was emceed by newly appointed City TV Anchor, Tammie Sutherland.

Community members who attended the event, had the opportunity to take part in celebrations through music, poetry and art that paid tribute to the contributions of the Black community.

York Region CAS CEO, Ginelle Skerritt was invited to deliver the keynote about Black Excellence. She encouraged community members, police, and organizations to work together to ensure equitable treatment of Black children and youth who experience a daily diet of racism and violence against Black bodies  in-person and via media exposure.

In addition, Artist, Robert Small also unveiled an inspiring compilation of portraits of Black personalities who have made great contributions to the community.

Special thanks to York Regional Police for hosting such a fantastic event and to all those involved in celebrating Black History Month.
