York Region Children’s Aid Society’s (York Region CAS), CEO, Ginelle Skerritt has been selected to receive the prestigious Leadership Award at the 2023 Afroglobal Television Excellence Awards program presented by the 24-hour Afroglobal Television channel, Silvertrust Media as well as the Transformation Institute for Leadership & Innovation.
The awards program recognizes distinguished Canadians and international recipients to celebrate the best of Africa & the global Diaspora.
Ginelle has been selected for her exemplary work as the Chief Executive Officer and her ongoing commitment to creating a positive impact for the wellbeing of the children, youth, and families of York Region.
Past recipients of Afroglobal Television Excellence Awards program include Hon. Jean Augustine, former Minister and Fairness Commissioner, Right Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, 7th and 1st female Prime Minister of Jamaica, Kevin Williams, President and MD of General Motors Canada, Professor Wole Soyinka, Nobel Laureate, Douglas Orane, Chairman of Grace Foods, and Wes Hall, Founder & Chairman of Black North, among others.
York Region CAS is incredibly proud to highlight Ginelle and this accomplishment to amplify the past and ongoing good work being done through a caring and collaborative approach. This approach aims to improve opportunities for children and youth and address past harms and create a York Region where children, youth, and families thrive.
Ginelle Skerritt, York Region CAS CEO said: “I am thankful to the Awards Committee for this great honour. This award is a testament of the great work that York Region staff have been doing to lead change related to providing children with safety, wellbeing and connection to their communities by working in tandem with community members, families, our community partners, government and regional partners.”

The award ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 21st at the Meridian Arts Centre (formerly Toronto Arts Centre), 5040 Yonge Street, Toronto.
