This week, York Region CAS celebrates and acknowledges Kinship and Alternate Care Awareness week which is recognized from September 16 – 20 👩‍👧‍👧

York Region CAS celebrates the family and community members who support children and youth when they need it most. Kin and alternate caregivers provide essential support to children, youth, and families in Ontario. They deserve to be recognized and thanked for the important role they play in safeguarding the health, safety, and well-being of children and youth, as well as their families and communities.

Family engagement, kinship networks, and lifelong connections for children and youth support their safety, well-being, and permanency. The involvement of kin early and throughout child welfare planning prevents placement disruptions and increases positive outcomes for children, youth, and families.

This week and throughout the year, York Region CAS remains committed to advocating for kin and alternate caregivers in ensuring that they have access to the resources that truly meet their needs.
