On Wednesday, November 1st, 2023, York Region CAS’s Department of People and Culture hosted its first annual “Take Your Child to Work Day” for high school students with family members employed with the agency.
A total of six students attended and had the opportunity to learn aspects of working in child welfare from various departments through interactive presentations and engaging activities.
The day began with a lively improv activity hosted by You Amaze You.
Students were then taught the impacts of stereotypes, had the opportunity to redesign the Agency’s logo and even got dressed up in full formal court dressings courtesy of the Legal Team. Students were also tasked with building strong marshmallow structures to understand the quality improvement cycle and participated in a panel discussion with the Resource and Protection Departments.
In addition, they also learned about the Agency’s Youth Advisory Council and the impact that they have in providing informed feedback on everything from programming and policies to community links.
On behalf of York Region CAS, we would like to thank all the students and staff who participated throughout the day to make it such a memorable experience!
Special thanks to all the York Region CAS teams: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, People and Culture, Communications, Quality Assurance, Legal, and the Resource and Protection Departments.
The day was an opportunity to share, learn from, and inspire a younger generation and expose them to the skills, challenges, education, and activities required for a career in child, youth, and family wellbeing. Thank you to each of the participants who asked questions and stayed engaged in a jam-packed day of presentations and activities. We look forward to more opportunities in the years to come!
Stay tuned for next year’s all-day event!
