York Region CAS is proud to announce that all the Agency’s staff, supervisors, managers, and leadership team were able to complete Signs of Safety Foundations and Advanced Training at the end of 2023. This is an incredible step through the multi-year process of a full system Signs of Safety implementation plan.

As the Agency shifts focus towards 2024, we are committed to maintaining our efforts on learning and applying Signs of Safety to our work and those who work with us: children, youth, families, and community members.

The Agency’s Signs of Safety Core Team and Steering Committee have already planned a list of activities throughout the year for 2024. Planning for how we will measure the breadth, depth, and impact of the practice is also underway.

These activities include:

  • The development of a practice intensive for the screening teams. This will be done to practice applying the signs of safety processes, principles and tools to the work being done at screening (Spring 2024).
  • Senior Leadership, Service Supervisors and Learning Team members will all be having their own sessions with Fred Magie, Elia consultant on applying and leading Signs of Safety throughout 2024 (Ongoing).
  • Internally, staff will continue to be provided with opportunities to practice using and applying Signs of Safety to their work with children, youth, and families (Ongoing)
  • The Signs of Safety Core Team and Steering Committee continue to work through and plan for alignment of our organizations policies, procedures, processes, recording systems etc. with Signs of Safety (Ongoing).
  • Communication with community members citing progress and notable changes to the work being done that is both seen and felt.

We look forward to providing you with updates as we continue the agency-wide Signs of Safety journey.
